Starting the computer from the rescue disk

If the operating system cannot be started as a result of a virus attack, use the rescue disk.

To boot the operating system, you should use a CD / DVD or removable drive with the rescue disk image (.iso) file recorded on it.

Loading a computer from a removable drive cannot be performed in any conditions. In particular, this mode is not supported by some obsolete computer models. Before shutting down your computer for further booting from a removable drive, make sure that this operation can be performed.

To boot your computer from the Rescue Disk:

  1. In BIOS settings enable start up from CD / DVD or removable drive (for detailed information please refer to the documentation for your computer’s motherboard).
  2. Insert a CD / DVD with the rescue disk image into the CD/DVD drive of an infected computer or connect a removable drive to it.
  3. Restart your computer.

For detailed information about the use of the Rescue Disk, please refer to the Kaspersky Rescue Disk User Guide.
